There’s a new comedy club in Eugene, Olsen Run, on Willamette where there used to be this nifty little music venue.
We went out on February 10 to check out Lizzy Cooperman, whose credits include The Eric Andre Show and HBO according to the sign on the corner.
We got to the place and were enthusiastically greeted by someone who I believe must be an owner of the venue. His excitement was contagious and much like a worshiper smacked on the forehead by an aggressive pastor, I was hype for the night.
The man at the door asked us if we wanted to sit up front, and I course replied, “absolutely I do.” That ended up being a stellar decision as we had lots of interactions with comics, though one member of our party got completely raked which was very uncool as he’s likely the nicest person I know.
The owner introduced the show for the night, and made mention of the fact that elsewhere in the venue they’re building a larger performance space. I got chills. I LOVE comedy shows. I go to an obscene amount of concerts but comedy shows are just better. You can actually hear what’s going on, chat with your friends between sets, and they bring you food and drinks when you want them. The pits are much easier to navigate. As far as I’m concerned, that Eugene now has a comedy venue is the biggest entertainment/nightlife news I’m likely to receive this year.
The show was awesome, Lizzy Cooperman is such a funny performer. She’d punctuate her statements by plopping a hand, or her chest, down on a keyboard, escalating her lines with the intensity of a dagger-thrust in a horror film.
I hope Olsen Run is able to make a go of it. I plan on having lots of good times in there.
