Eye 5 for January 27, 2024
I host and produce Eye 5, KLCC‘s independent music program. I intend to use this space to post about it weekly, not only to share the content, of which I’m rather proud of, but to share some insights into programming decisions and processes.
This week on the program, it’s one that’s very special. I’ve had an intern working with me this month. Her name is Robin, and she’s a student at the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield, OR. Robin is very interested in music, is herself a musician, and wanted to intern with a local station where she could get experience with music radio programming and production.
Her final project was to program, write, and host a complete episode of Eye 5. I’m pleased to say that she’s done so, and she’s done it very well. It’s set to broadcast January 27, and is available for on-demand listening via the player below.
I’m really glad I agreed to participate, and I hope Robin got something out of it as well. She is extremely bright, talented, and hardworking, and I’m certain she’ll excel at whatever she choses to take on.
I of course found it very rewarding myself. The trajectory of my career path would have surely been very different if it weren’t for the kind and patient folks at a local radio station who took me in and showed me the ropes in high school.
As I mentioned earlier I’m going to use this blog to not only share my program, but I intend to go behind the scenes a bit. Leading this internship gave me a reason to assess the workflow of creating this radio program, and I’ll share those processes over the coming weeks.
For now, let’s all listen to and enjoy Robin’s work. She has great taste in music!
